Hong Kong – Macau Diaries

After a lot of discussion and search, me and my bestie decided on Hong Kong (HK) for the New years, mainly because of below reasons

  • it was cheap for both us (Me and my hubby flying out from Bangalore India) and my friends(flying in from Melbourne,Australia)
  • No visa needed for Indian passport – Visa on arrival option (Now the rules have been changed and you need to get a visa before traveling)
  • shorter travel time
  • One of the best fireworks for new years
  • Never visited 😀

Travel : We booked our flights through Cathay Pacific. It was a direct flight to Hong Kong, about 5 hrs of journey and costed us about 450 Euros round trip. This was a bit on the costlier side considering the new years.

Stay : Since it was a 9 day trip, we took a little detour to the gambling city of Macau. Like HK, visa is on arrival. You can stay upto 1 month from the date of entry. So we stayed in total 4 hotels/hostels in both the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Island.

So for the first 2 days we stayed in a really beautiful hotel “Gloucester Luk Kwok Hong Kong” with an awesome view in the HK Island. A night here costed us bout 200 Euros. So after that we shifted to a hostel “Marigold Hostel” in the Kowloon district – Tsim Sha Tsui, which is a tourist place with lots of shopping and food outlets. After our trip from Macau, we again stayed in a hostel “London Guest House” which was again in the centre of Tsim Sha Tsui. Both the hostels costed us about 23 Euros per night, per person. Me personally would recommend London guest house anytime over others. Its clean, spacious and the staffs are really friendly and accommodating.

In Macau, we went a bit overboard and booked one of the best resorts “The Venetian Macau“, which is a replica of the one in Vegas. A night costed us about 71 Euros per person per night. We booked the “Bella Suite”.
